Michael Coaker: Winner of the Education Chef Award

Michael Coaker from Thames Valley University won the Education Chef Award at this year's annual Craft Guild of Chefs' Awards held on the 16th June.

After spending more than 20 years as executive chef with Intercontinental Hotels, Michael Coaker started teaching three years ago at Thames Valley University where he is now senior lecturer.

In this short time retention has increased and success rates are 20% above the national average in culinary arts, both achievements credited to his “knowledge, skills and sheer dedication”.

Those nominating him say he has “driven the curriculum, staff, students and department forward, going the extra mile to achieve excellence”.

He is also chairman of the Culinary of Academy Arts’ Chefs Adopt a School Trust.
