Britons to spend over £7,000 on fish & chips

Even though Britons are expected to spend more than £7,500 on fish and chips over their lifetimes, this is still not enough, according to research conducted by Young’s Seafood.

The government recommends that everyone should eat two portions of fish a week – however just 21% of people admit to reaching this target.

Helen Taylor, of Young's Seafood, commented on these findings: "We want to help families introduce more fish into their diet and increase their intake of Omega 3. We will be asking schools and canteens to add fish back to their menus as well as encouraging Brits to eat fish more regularly."

The poll of 2,000 people also revealed that fish and chips are the nations favourite fishy meal.

Further research forecasted that nine out of ten people would not be eating Fish on Good Friday, therefore suggesting that the British tradition of eating Fish at Easter is disappearing.

And just 14% of those surveyed thought of eating fish around Easter, and 49% did not know that the tradition of eating fish on Friday is part of a Christian fast.
