Calling all oyster openers!

Tabasco is calling for Britain's best oyster opener to mark the start of the native oyster season in September.

The company – in association with Galway International Festival – is holding the Tabasco British Oyster Opening Championship 2009 to find Britain's fastest oyster opener – or 'shucker'.

Contestants must open and display 30 oysters as fast as possible under the watchful glare of a judging panel of seafood experts and chefs.

The event will take place on Wednesday 2nd September at Green's Restaurant  and Oyster Bar.

The winner will receive the coveted title of Tabasco British Oyster Opener of the Year as well as a trophy, a cheque for £250 and a trip to Galway to represent Britain in the International Championship.
