Craft Guild supports Haiti orphanage

The Craft Guild of Chefs has lent its support to the Fedja Mirebalais orphanage in Haiti by teaming up with Business Partners such as Tilda to provide rice supplies after the region was devastated by four hurricanes.

Mark Lyddy commented on Tilda's involvement: "Tilda is delighted to have been able to make a contribution to the great work that the Craft Guild is doing with these children in Haiti where they have been suffering from food shortages due to the world economic situation and the recent bad weather. Rice plays such an important part in their daily lives and Tilda is happy to have helped in a small way."

Yves Prophete explained how grateful the orphanage is to the Craft Guild: "We have cried out to our friends about the needs of our children in Fedja Mirebalais, Haiti, and the voice has reached the ears of our new friends The Craft Guild of Chefs and the "Tilda's Company Adora" who responded overwhelmingly. Boxes of rice were donated and arrived coincidentally in Haiti a week after the country had sustained the devastation of four Hurricanes that destroyed 60% of the Haitian rice production.

"The children laughed out of joy when the rice arrived. We did tell them about the provenance of the rice. We know the hearts of our friends from the Tilda's Company Adora did beat with a rhythm of anticipation to help when they heard the cry, and we know the children's hearts were beating with a new rhythm of gratitude when they saw boxes of rice.

"What a wonderful way to be an agent of change in the lives of children. When we care, distance does not matter any more. From England to Haiti, change is still possible. We just need two hearts that will beat with the rhythm of love. We thank our friends from the Tilda's Company Adora who have demonstrated unconditional love for our orphan children in Fadja, Mirebalais Haiti."

The Guilds involvement began when discussions with Stephen Scuffell and some of the Vice Presidents were taking place about other possible good causes that the Guild could support. That's when the orphanage in Haiti was mentioned.

It was agreed that the raffle money from the AGM would go to the orphanage.

From that several of our Business Partners decided they wanted to do something as well, hence Tilda, Villeroy and Boch and Electrolux Professional have all donated to the orphanage.

The dishes from Villeroy will be arriving with the kids shortly and Electrolux is just finalising the final equipment list in time for installation in January 2009.
