Dairy Crest wins 24 accolades at cheese awards

Dairy Crest has won a massive 24 awards at this year's Nantwich International Cheese Awards.

Laura Downey, Dairy Crest's marketing controller for cheese, commented on the achievement: "It's fantastic to have won so many awards this year and I'm very pleased for the whole team, as they work very hard and are passionate about producing cheese that consistently tastes as irresistible as Cathedral City. That's why we're the nation's favourite Cheddar brand."

Other award winners include Cornish Creamery, Davidstow, picking up two gold awards for its Cathedral City Vintage 20 and Cathedral City Mild.

Chris Terrett, general manager at the Davidstow Creamery, added: "We are delighted to have had another successful year at Nantwich. This is a great result for our staff and the products they manufacture. The Nantwich Awards are a key fixture in our calendar so it's great to walk away with prizes year after year!"

Also at the Cathedral City stand was celebrity chef Lesley Waters who shared her cooking secrets with the Nantwich crowd. "I had such a great time at the show and I loved meeting fellow cheese-lovers! I'm looking forward to taking home my pack of Vintage 60 and enjoying a piece with a glass of wine!"

The awards attracted over 33,000 visitors, and had 2,800 entries competing in 160 classes. Each cheese is judged on its appearance, aroma, texture and taste and the panel of judges comprises of specialist cheese experts including cheese graders and buyers from leading supermarkets, dairies and creameries worldwide.
