Fergus Martin is new Culinary Academy team manager

Fergus Martin, executive chef at the prestigious Wyboston Lakes Conference and Training Centre, has been appointed as team manager of the award-winning Craft Guild of Chefs Culinary Academy.

He takes over the reins from the capable hands of Andy Twells, who was instrumental in founding and establishing the academy in 2008 as a means of helping young chefs to harness their talents through the world of culinary competitions.

Under Andy's expert guidance the academy has established a structure through which chefs can build and develop their competitive CVs, including a system of awards recognising different levels of skill and competitive excellence. Novice members can progress through these levels following competitive attainment, while experienced competitors can be recognised and rewarded for their competition achievements.

"Andy has done a fantastic job running the academy for the past three years and has helped develop many young chefs to various levels of competition," said Fergus. "I am excited about continuing the good work and I am also keen to introduce more master classes to keep the momentum going between competitions."

"I will also explore the possibility of supporting more local culinary salons around the country, which is something we largely missed out on," he continued.

Fergus will guide the academy to the next World Culinary Olympics in 2012, having been a silver medallist himself in 2008.

Application to become a member of the Culinary Academy is free to all Craft Guild of Chefs Craft & Student members wishing to become more involved in competitions or mentoring of budding competitors.
