Food prices one of top concerns for consumers

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has published the results of its latest mini survey, which found that food poisoning, the amount of salt and fat in food and the soaring prices of food were the key issues of concern for consumers.

In regards to healthy eating, 25% of adults claimed to already be actively trying to reduce the fat in their diets, and awareness of the 5-a-day message was high – with 78% of people correctly saying we should eat five or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Concern about food safety issues remained the same since the last survey conducted. And in terms of trust in the Agency, 50% of respondents who were aware of the FSA rated it as an organisation they can trust.

The Agency is also running a one-off public attitudes survey to investigate the public's views to food issues that have not been measured for some time. Further details of the survey will be available next year.
