Hulstone heads through to Masters of Culinary Arts final

Simon Hulstone, KNORR National Chef of the Year and chef proprietor of the Elephant Restaurant in Torquay, has made it through to the Chef finals of the Master of Culinary Arts 2009.

The prestigious awards take place every four years and were founded by the Academy of Culinary Arts in 1987.

The competition is broken down into three categories: Chefs, Restaurant Management and Service and Pastry Chefs and the semi-finals took place in June. 

The finals for the Chef and Pastry Chef categories will take place at Thames Valley University on Wednesday, September 23.

The finals will see Simon compete against nine accomplished chefs including:
William Best, Wiltons
Jeff Galvin, Gavin Bistrot de Luxe
James Holah, The Ritz Hotel
Stephen Love, Love's Restaurant 

Each finalist will be set four tasks and tested on his ability to produce dishes of excellence using his own skill, judgement, imagination and flair.

The panel of high profile judges includes Brian Turner OBE, John Williams MBE and Eyck Zimmer (KNORR National Chef of the Year 2006).

The winners will receive their awards at a gala presentation dinner on Monday, October 5 at Claridge's. Previous winners of the Chef award include Eyck Zimmer, Jérôme Ponchelle and André Garrett.
