Jersey launches World Cheese Festival

Leading chefs, cheese experts, food writers and food buyers will be heading up the judging panel for the first ever breed specific cheese competition held at the World Jersey Cheese Festival in May.
The event will run from 24 to 26 May and will be held at the RJA&HS headquarters in the parish of Trinity.
The festival will feature a main cheese tent where the public will be able to sample and purchase cheese and related goods. There will also be cheese-making demonstrations, cookery displays from leading chefs and cheese tasting featuring the competition entries.
Organisers also hope to include a selection of locally produced foods, from Jersey Royals to Oysters, and sausages to Beancrock – all accompanied by locally produced beers, ciders and wines.
The event will centre around the cheese awards, in which the judging will take place on 23 May. The winners of each category will be announced throughout the three-day festival.
The cheeses will be entered into one of 14 classes and awarded with either a bronze, silver or gold award.
James Godfrey, chief executive of World Jersey Cattle Bureau, commented: "With an estimated world wide population in excess of 2 million head, the 'Jersey' is now the second most numerous breed of dairy cow and an important influence in the global dairy industry."
The festival is being organised by the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society and the World Jersey Cattle and is being supported by the Tourism Development Fund.
