Just Ask!

Freedom Food, the RSPCA's food labelling scheme, is launching a brand new campaign later this year urging people to ask about food provenance when eating out.

The campaign - called 'Just Ask' - will launch in the autumn with a specific focus on eggs.

This move follows recent research revealing that 34% of consumers said they are now more likely to let farm animal welfare concerns influence what restaurant they eat in, compared to five years ago.

Currently 85% of eggs used in food products and food service are from hens kept in battery cages, compared to about 58% produced for retail.

Just Ask will aim to get as many food service businesses as possible to commit to only using non-caged eggs (free-range or barn).  It will also urge consumers to 'Just Ask' what kind of eggs are being used in their food when eating out.

Freedom Food wants to hear from businesses that only use non-caged eggs, so they can include their details in a new online resource for consumers.

If your company is not already using non-caged eggs but plan to make the change, Freedom would also like to hear from you.

Please contact Rebecca Lenik on 0300 123 0134 or rlenik@freedomfood.co.uk.
