Marco Pierre White drops into seaside café

Marco Pierre White

Café workers and diners in the seaside town Morecambe were surprised to gain an extra pair of hands, after Marco Pierre White turned up unannounced.

The Michelin-starred Hell's Kitchen host was accompanied by a film crew as he strolled into Rita's Café along the promenade.

Steve Weatherhead, manager of the café told local paper The Visitor how everyone was amazed when Marco walked in: "He'd come in to ask if he could film for a new series. He said they'd been up and down the promenade looking for an authentic café that had people in it and we fitted both categories."

Steve's brother Lee is a big fan of the famous chef. The café manager described Lee's reaction: "Our Lee loves him. Marco was really friendly and ordered a couple of tea cakes. He pulled on a pinny and came behind the counter and was asking questions.

"The café was packed at the time and really buzzing while he was there. All the customers were in awe of what was going on. He was a lovely guy, really friendly and he said he loved the café and its atmosphere."

A spokesperson for ITV has confirmed that Marco is filming around the UK for a new series that will be shown later this year.
