Michelin-starred restaurant in Yorkshire closed by illness

The Star Inn in North Yorkshire has been shut after more than 80 people became ill with the vomiting bug norovirus.

However despite the presence of the bug, the cause of the illness has not been confirmed. Therefore the Michelin-starred eatery has closed temporarily as a "precautionary measure".

Dr Simon Padfield, consultant in communicable disease control for North Yorkshire and Humber Health Protection Unit, commented on the outbreak: "We're working closely with environmental health colleagues at Ryedale District Council to investigate the cause of illness."

Jacquie Pern of The Star Inn told The BBC: "We are taking this matter very seriously and are co-operating with the health authorities. We look forward to returning to our normal service standards as soon as possible."

Diners developed the symptoms after eating there between 18 and 28 October.
