Norwegian chef wins Bocuse d'or 2009 challenge

Norwegian chef Geir Skeie has won the Bocuse d'Or Europe contest for the second year running.

Skeie, from the Mathuset Solvold restaurant in Sandefjord, Norway, was presented with the Bocuse d'Or trophy, created by Christine Delessert, along with €20,000 in prize money.

Runners up were Jonas Lundgren, representing Sweden, followed by Philippe Mille, standing for France.

Working in contest kitchens set up facing the public, 24 chefs from all over the world took up the challenge to create two perfect dishes within 5 hrs 35 minutes using Aberdeen angus beef for the meat dish and Norwegian cod, king scallops and wild prawns for the fish dish.

Other awards dishes out on the day included the prize for the best commis, which went to Grace Pineda, Canada, special prize for the meat dish and the fish dish was handed over to Jasper Kure, Denmark, meanwhile Brazil was presented with the prize for the best promotional poster.

The contest took place on 27 and 28 January.
