The Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa praised for its sausages

The Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa has been crowned the winners of The Best Hotel Sausage competition in Leeds.

Using Lishman's champion pork sausage, Paul Woodward, head chef at Thorpe Park Hotel, cooked a summer sausage dish which wowed the judges.

The competition took place as part of Leeds Loves Food and was judged by an independent panel from key hospitality and city organisations; Leeds City College, deliciouslyorkshire and the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Each panel member tasted and scored three finalist sausages from Weetwood Hall, 42 The Calls and Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa during the Briggate Kitchen Cook Off last Friday (2nd July).

Chief Judge Sarah Knapper, research & development director at deliciouslyorkshire said: "It has been great to be part of this competition. Since the launch I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of enthusiasm and dedication that been shown by both the hotels taking part and their guests.

"They are proud of the food they produce and the calibre of sausage which we have been lucky enough to taste today is something all of the finalists should be proud of."

Woodward added: "I'm delighted to have won this competition and it is great for the hotel to have such an accolade. We all pride ourselves on attention to detail so to have reached the final shows our guests are happy and to have won shows me that the effort I put into developing a menu with fresh and local produce really is important."

The competition that began back in April involved eight hotels from Leeds Hotels Association and was organised to showcase hotel restaurants and their menus, particularly sausages, to the public. From the public vote three finalists were announced to cook their speciality sausage dish at the Briggate cook off.

The Best Hotel Sausage in Leeds' was part of Leeds Loves Food, the city's annual food' festival, that took place from 1st to 4th July.
