Time Out announces its Eating & Drinking Awards

The Giaconda Dining Room in London has scooped the Best New Restaurant accolade in this year's Time Out Eating & Drinking Awards.

This London bistro run by Australian couple Paul and Tracey Merrony was one of ten venues to be rewarded in the annual shortlist of the capital's best bars, cafés, gastropubs and restaurants.

Guy Dimond, Time Out's food & drink editor said: "Giaconda has consistently impressed all of our judges in the year or so since it opened. It's unpretentious, the French-ish food is consistently good, the mark-ups on the excellent wine list are low, and the prices are very reasonable indeed despite its central London location."

Now in their 20th year, this year's awards saw the addition of four new categories to reflect the changing food and drink scene in the capital.

Other well deserved winners include L'Anima which won London's Best New Italian Restaurant, Lantana was crowned London's Best New Café and Harwood Arms in Fulham achieved the Best New Gastropub award.

Meanwhile Bob Bob Ricard picked up the award for Best New Design, while Crystal Palace's The Exhibition Rooms won Best Local Restaurant.

The other two categories to be introduced this year were the Best Spanish Restaurant and the Best Spanish Wine List, both sponsored by Wines from Spain. Lola Rojo and Cambio de Tercio are the winners respectively.

Finally, winner of the Best New Bar award is tiny 69 Colebrooke Row, the latest venture from cocktail guru Tony Conigliaro.
