Travelling back in time

The Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland is turning back the clocks to the 1960s for its annual HIT Dinner in April at the Glasgow Hilton.

Now in its 13th year the event has raised over £1 million to support HIT Scotland's Scholarship and Bursary programmes. HIT Scotland has awarded over 400 scholarships to local, national and international settings. Every year at the HIT Dinner, the charity awards a Lifetime achievement award to a deserving member of the industry.

Previous winners include Avril Robertson, Ken McCulloch, Peter Taylor, Tony Jackson, Stewart Cameron, James Thomson and, in 2003, Eddie Friel and Jack Munro, representing the tourist boards of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Nominees can work in any sector of the Scottish hospitality, catering, leisure and tourism industry. But they must demonstrate a particular commitment to raising standards and a passion for the industry, beyond their job description.

To make a nomination contact david.cochrane@hitscotland.co.uk with a short note about your nominee.

Frances McMeeking, of Direct and Care Services head of the HIT Dinner Organising Committee, explained: "The sixties were a time of unburdened optimism, revolution was in the air and people felt they could change the world (or so I have been told). Through HIT Scotland's scholarship and bursary programme we may not change the planet but we can improve standards and professionalism across the industry."

Tickets for the HIT Dinner are available from the HIT Scotland website <http://www.hitscotland.org/> . Tickets are currently £95 until 27th February when they increase to £110. Tables are for 12 people.
