Veggie awards 2009 seeking nominations

Nominations for the Vegetarian Society's 2009 awards are now open with nine categories including best caterer.

New for this year is a range of awards focusing on products which meet the Vegetarian Society's criteria to carry its approved trademark.

Nominations can be made online by going to www.vegsocapproved.com

Vanessa Brown, corporate relations manager at the Vegetarian Society said: "This is a chance for veggie consumers to tell us where they believe the best food can be eaten, and which product is most appreciated. But in 2009 we really would like to know which Vegetarian Society Approved products and services really shine. Categories range from Best Convenience Foods and Best Snack through to Best Breakfast Product and Best Drink."

Voting is open now and continues until 15 June 2009.

Winners will be announced in October and the categories are as follows:

Best Catering for Vegetarians – Vote for a favourite local restaurant, pub or café? If they produce great veggie food, then nominate them. Some of the best providers of veggie food are not yet Vegsoc Approved.

Best Product for Vegetarians - Ready meal, beer, biscuit or shoes (to name but a few!) – what's the all time favourite vegetarian product, not yet approved by the Vegetarian Society.

Best Vegsoc Approved Convenience Food - Which foods make life easier as a vegetarian? This could be anything from a handy ready meal, to cooking sauces or even veggie sausages and bacon. If it makes culinary life easier and it's approved by us, make sure it gets a vote!

Best Vegsoc Approved Snack / Confectionary - Are crisps or chocolate a favourite thing or even olives with feta cheese? Vote for a favourite Vegsoc Approved snack or treat.

Best Vegsoc Approved Skincare / Personal Care Product - This is the category for everything from moisturiser and shower gel, to face packs and hair care

Best Vegsoc Approved Breakfast Product – Which food products really help to start the day - yoghurt, cereals, bagels or smoothies.

Best Vegsoc Approved Drink – Nominations for favourite tipples a sloe gin or super smoothie?

Best Vegsoc Approved Non-Food Product - This is the category for voting for all those handy things that can't be eaten. Maybe that cleaning product that makes life so much easier or that fabulous vegetarian cookbook which can't be done without?

Best Vegsoc Approved Catering - Who offers the best Vegsoc Approved meal out? Nominations are needed for restaurants, pubs or cafés - or even catering companies – who is the best advert for Vegetarian Society Approved catering?
