WKC student wins Aspiring Manager Award

Westminster Kingsway College (WKC) hospitality management student Tom Allcock has won one of the accolades at the Institute of Hospitality's 'Aspiring Manager Awards'.

The awards were launched this year at the London Branch of the Institute of Hospitality Chairman's Ball in 'partnership' with learnpurple. The new awards recognise those 'up and coming' managers within their organisations who have really made an impact to their businesses over the past year.

18 year old Allcock was recognised for his work on the trainee manager's programme through his employer and he was nominated for the award by the Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE).

He said: "I am really pleased with the award as I wasn't expecting to win. It is something that I can build on for the future."

WKC curriculum team leader for higher education: Hospitality & Tourism, Clare Mannall added: "This is a prestigious award for future managers of the hospitality industry here in London. 

"For one of our students to be nominated in its inaugural year and win this award makes us very proud of Tom here at the college, and I am sure that his employers are equally proud of his achievements. What a great triumph for Tom in his current and future career."

Allcock has been working at the private members Caledonian Club in central London through their trainee manager's programme and recently joined WKC on the day release Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management. 

"I have always liked working with people so a job in hospitality was a natural progression for me. Through my employer, I have worked in reception, banqueting, bar and kitchen but I really prefer front of house. I like to ensure that our guests have the best experience."
