Young chefs scoop top awards at Christchurch festival

Two young chefs have scooped accolades at this year's Best of the Best Awards held at The Captain's Club Hotel as part of Christchurch Food & Wine Festival.

Ashley Best, aged 14, from The Grange School, won the Junior Cook of the Year award, meanwhile Jonathan Ryan, a chef at The Captain's Club Hotel, was named Young Chef of the Year.

Other winners at the event included Splinters won the restaurant of the year award while juice and coffee bar Blend picked up the award for best cafe as well as best service.

And the Rising Sun, a pub specialising in Thai food, won best pub and best business lunch with The Lord Bute being chosen as having the best Sunday lunch.

The festival took place from 8 to 17 May.
