FutureChef 2007

Sixteen year old Rebecca Toppin from Carmel Technology College in Darlington was announced as the star of the future at this year’s FutureChef competition, which came to an exciting finish at Westminster Kingsway College on March 19.

Beating off competition from more than 7,000 other young hopefuls, the aspiring chef cooked her way through local heats, regional finals and the challenging grand final cook off to be presented with the coveted title by competition chairman Brian Turner.

Toppin’s winning menu of roast crown of chicken and chunky vegetable broth followed by orange and cinnamon clafouti with vanilla ice cream was praised for its “simple perfection” by the team of respected judges which included the Craft Guild's Steve Munkley, Cyrus Todiwala, Matt Owens, Lesley Waters, William Curley, John Williams and Michael Caines.

The three runners up were:
First: Philip Oberhoffer, 14, Archbishop Sandcroft School, Norfolk
Second: Philip Ferguson, 12, from Torpoint Community College, Cornwall
Third: Ellie Schofield, 15, from South Bromsgrove High School in the West Midlands
