Judge Profile


Matt Owens

From the age of 16, Matt undertook a three year training course at Westminster College where he achieved a number of qualifications including the Professional Chef’s Diploma and 706/3 Pastry.

He started his career working in restaurants including Selsdon Park Hotel, Sopwell House Hotel, Millennium Gloucester, Four Seasons Park Lane, Waldorf Hotel and Montmartre Patisserie, and he is now head of the pastry team at Compass Group’s specialist catering company Circadia.

Matt has competed in all major culinary competitions at home and abroad, achieving a gold medal at the Erfurt Olympics. He was also awarded Pastry Chef of the Year 2001 by the Craft Guild of Chefs.

He is an active committee member of the Craft Guild of Chefs and is involved in demonstrations and judging.
“It is important to spend time with the chefs of tomorrow,” says Matt. “Competing gives me the chance to express my personal views on culinary trends and mix with a group of people who are experts in every culinary aspect.”
