Caribbean cuisine comes to London’s Vinopolis

Caribbean cuisine will be showcased this November at London’s Vinopolis with a special guest appearance from Caribbean-born chef and entrepreneur Levi Roots, who will be cooking live at the event.

On Saturday 7th November 2009, visitors to the show, organised by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, can sample a wide selection of Caribbean rums plus a range of local gastronomic specialities from 13 exhibiting Caribbean tourist boards, a new Caribbean beach resort and two of London's Caribbean restaurants.

Levi Roots will be creating his signature dishes; Reggae Reggae Jerk Chicken wings, Caribbean mini patties and Roots Rice. Visitors will be able to meet him and explore some of the recipes featured in both his book and TV series, 'Caribbean Food Made Easy'.

Also present during the afternoon will be Ian Burrell, known as the UK's rum ambassador and the man behind London's annual Rumfest.

Burrell will be coordinating a mixology competition and familiarising attendees with the darker, molasses-flavoured rums of the English-speaking destinations; the exclusively sugar cane-based agricultural rums (rhum agricole) of Martinique and Guadeloupe and the clean-tasting rums of Cuba and the Spanish-speaking destinations.

Tickets are available from the CTO in advance from £20 per person or £25 on the door (one child under 12 years admitted free of charge per ticket-holding adult) which entitles entrants to sample Caribbean dishes and drinks from the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Cuba, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St Kitts, Saint Lucia, St Martin, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago.

Every adult visitor will also receive a goody bag, which includes miniature bottles of rum and the Caribbean Guide 2010.
