Celebrity chef Ken Hom wins OBE award

Celebrity chef Ken Hom has been awarded with an honorary OBE for 'services to culinary arts'.

The OBE (Order of the British Empire) recognises his achievements and the impressive social and historical impact he has made on the way the UK has 'adopted' Chinese cuisine, which has now become one of the nation's favourites.

As well as being awarded with an OBE, this year also marks his 60th birthday and the 25th anniversary of his first television appearance on  BBC, Ken Hom's Chinese Cookery.

In 2008 Hom was awarded with an honorary doctorate from Oxford Brookes University in recognition of his 'outstanding success within the international food world', and at the same time became an ambassador for Action Against Hunger, the humanitarian charity which works in over 40 countries helping families to feed their children and build a sustainable life.

The renowned chef commented on his achievement: "I am honoured and humbled by this award."
