Chefs urged to take part in Red Tractor Week competition

Chefs are being encouraged to take part in a Red Tractor Week competition, held in conjunction with BPEX.

The week, which takes place from 14-20 June, celebrates a decade of the Red Tractor food assurance scheme. For chefs and their customers, the Red Tractor logo gives them the confidence that the pork and pig meat products have come from farms that adhere to strict welfare and production standards.

The competition is being run by Assured Food Standards in conjunction with BPEX and to take part in the contest chefs need to devise a recipe that uses Red Tractor pork or pork products. The recipe can use any other Red Tractor ingredients and must be submitted by Friday 2 July.

Four winners will win a special Sunday Lunch Hamper, containing a joint of Red Tractor pork, Red Tractor potatoes, vegetables, strawberries, cream and beer. In addition, the recipes will be prepared and professionally photographed for use in a dedicated Red Tractor Recipe leaflet.

Tony Goodger, BPEX foodservice trade manager, said: "This is a great opportunity for chefs to put their quality assured pork dishes forward for recognition. We know that pork is a popular ingredient amongst pub and restaurant chefs, thanks to its versatility and value for money.

"By sourcing pork that carries a mark of quality assurance chefs will also be able to allay consumers concerns about food provenance and animal welfare standards. This competition will give you the chance to demonstrate your quality pork dishes, generate publicity for your establishment and win a superb hamper full of fantastic produce."

To enter, simply send your recipe by Friday 2 July to Penny Beauchamp at Assured Food Standards, email penny.beauchamp@assuredfoodstandards.com or post to:

In addition, BPEX foodservice will be joining Assured Food Standards (AFS) in its campaign to raise the profile of the Red Tractor Mark, and in particular assured pork and pork products.

AFS has launched an online tool kit which includes a number of downloadable marketing and promotional materials, such as posters, banners, leaflets and other items which can be tailored according to the requirements of each business.
