El Bulli Foundation

El Bulli Restaurant has confirmed it will become the El Bulli Foundation when it reopens in 2014 after a self imposed two year break.

This follows news in the latest issue of Stockpot of reports emanating from the US that the restaurant would close for good in December 2011 for two years before becoming "a cutting edge academy for the world's most talented chefs".

El Bulli says the new private and non profit making foundation will be an establishment of a think tank of avant garde gastronomy lovers: "chefs, sommeliers, front of house professionals, gourmets, creative thinkers or solely enthusiasts of our dream – a breeding ground for new ideas and for new talents to go together".

El Bulli, which has been voted the world's best restaurant for the last four years, has always been a magnet for followers of molecular gastronomy. Plans in the pipeline for 2014 include tastings of its gastronomic creations from its cooking team for certain clients and annual scholarships for chefs and front of house professionals.
