Industry honoured in New Year List

2008 was a difficult year for many businesses in the hospitality industry but the New Year's Honours list has recognised those who made exceptional contributions and shone:

CBE – Wynne Griffiths, chief executive of Young's Seafood. For services to the food industry.

OBE - Kumar Muthalagappan, managing director of Pearl Hotels and Restaurant Group. For services to the hospitality industry.

OBE – Hugh Taylor, chief executive of Hilmar Hotel Management. For services to the tourist and hospitality industries.

MBE – Enam Ali, chairman of the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs, proprietor of Le Raj restaurant in Epsom, Surrey, and publisher of Spice Business magazine. For services to the Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant industries.

MBE – Michael Hardman, one of the founders of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and editor of the Good Beer Guide. For services to the brewing industry.

MBE – Nigel Platts-Martin, restaurateur who achieved critical acclaim with London eateries such as The Square, Chez Bruce and Ledbury. He worked with Marco Pierre-White for many years. For services to the hospitality industry.
