Jamie Oliver wins TED prize for “transforming children’s food”

TV chef, Jamie Oliver, has won the 2010 TED Prize for “…transforming the way we feed our children and ourselves”.

Former winners of the TED Prize include Bill Clinton and U2 singer Bono. The website explains more about the prize and its history: "The TED Prize is designed to leverage the TED community's exceptional array of talent and resources. It is awarded annually to exceptional individuals who each receive $100,000 and the granting of 'one wish to change the world'. After several months of preparation, they unveil their wish at an award ceremony held during the TED Conference."

Describing the chef as a "change catalyst", the TED organisers said they are "incredibly excited" to add him to the long line of winners.

They added: "With the obesity epidemic growing globally, Oliver is using his notoriety to bring attention to the changes Britons and now Americans need to make in their lifestyles and diet. Campaigns such as School Dinners, Ministry of Food and Food Revolution USA combine Oliver's culinary tools, cookbooks and television with more standard activism and community organising to create change on both the individual and governmental level."
