JOEL - THE MICHELIN MAN

The Michelin Guide to Tokyo, published this week, awards six stars in total to Joël Robuchon, making the French chef the holder of the most Michelin stars in the world - an impressive 17.

With his London restaurant L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon awarded a star within six months of opening, he says: "I am really thrilled to be recognised in this way".

Joël is one of just eight chefs to be awarded 3 Michelin stars in the first ever edition of the Tokyo red guide, and the only non-Japanese chef within the top eight. As well as Tokyo and London, he has eateries in Paris, Monte Carlo, Las Vegas and New York.

News of the Tokyo guide results means the chef has gained an unprecedented 10 Michelin stars within a two-week period after last month's publication of the Michelin guide to Las Vegas.

On the worldwide scale, second to Robuchon is Alain Ducasse who was awarded one star for each of his two Tokyo restaurants, bringing his total up to 15 while Gordon Ramsay has 11.

* Joel's West Street venue in London has introduced a set lunch menu at both L'Atelier and La Cuisine dining rooms, priced at £27 for two courses and £35 for three.
