London restaurant group puts calories on the menu

The Real Greek has become the first restaurant company in the UK to include the calorie content of the dishes on its menu, without trialling the scheme first.

Liz Williams, managing director, The Real Greek, said she has introduced the calorie labelling because of the company's commitment to supporting the goal of the Food Standards Agency to reduce obesity in the UK through the promotion of healthier diets.

She added: "This is not a pilot scheme. We are fully committed to delivering clear nutritional information to all our customers and we are delighted to adopt the FSA's recommendations wholesale, rather than trial the new menu in only one or two of our restaurants. We are proud to be setting an example to the rest of the industry."

In January 2009, the FSA announced its initiative to see consistent nutrition information for consumers when they eat out of home.

The Real Greek has undertaken full nutritional calculations for each dish on its new menu.

This data is available in the restaurants and on The Real Greek website.
