Perth restaurant wins Gold standard by EatScotland

Perth restaurant 63 Tay Street has been awarded the Gold standard by EatScotland, the food and drink arm of national tourism body VisitScotland.

The award comes hard on the heels of chef/patron Graeme Pallister being named Scotland's Executive Chef of 2010 for his work at the city's sister hotel,  Parklands.

It makes 63 Tay Street the only restaurant in Perthshire to hold the rating apart from double Michelin-starred Andrew Fairlie's at Gleneagles Hotel, and one of only 13 in the whole of Scotland.

Richard Pinn, VisitScotland's regional director in Perthshire, said: "The quality of eating and drinking experiences is extremely important in encouraging return visits to Perthshire.

"Tourism growth is critical to the County's future and recognising and encouraging the standard of what visitors can eat and drink here, particularly during 2010, Scotland's Year of Food and Drink, creates more compelling reasons for people to visit the region."

At least two assessments in any year are necessary to be considered for Gold status, and judges also take account of a high standard of consistency over the long term.
