The UK's first organic law firm

Compass Group has marked Soil Association Organic Fortnight by announcing that its restaurant at law firm, Lawrence Graham LLP, is the first workplace in London to receive organic status from Soil Association Certification Limited.

In addition to a number of regular organic products on the daily menu, the 600-strong workforce is treated to one fully organic meal each month, in an initiative that could be rolled out across various Compass sites over coming years.

A spokesperson from LG, said: "We started talking about trying out an organic menu here a few months ago as we knew that many of our staff like to eat as ethically as possible.

"The response has been phenomenal with all organic meals selling out each time we've offered them."

LG is the first company in the City of London as well as the first law firm in the country to receive the certification. The organic offer covers both the general staff restaurant as well as private dining. The menu includes favourites such as bangers and mash, aubergine parmigiano and chilli con carne.

Organic meals at LG started in January of this year and since then, both LG and Compass have been working with the Soil Association to gain the official accreditation to provide staff and clients with the assurance that they are eating fully organic meals.

Compass General Manager at LG, Robert Simmons said: "We are overjoyed to have finally gained official recognition for our work. Hopefully, other managers will see what we've done here and decide to implement it where they are."

Soil Association standards are recognised to exceed EU baseline organic standards. Certification from the organisation is recognised globally and the symbol appears on over 80% of all UK organic produce. Wherever you see it you can be sure that the food you have purchased has been produced and processed to strict and rigorous environmental and animal welfare standards.

James Twine, Commercial Director of the Soil Association Certification Limited, commented: "It's fantastic that LG and Compass have decided to go for organic certification – a first for any law firm in the UK. I hope that demand will encourage them to roll out the organic meal option to other Compass sites and staff members – and motivate other firms to follow suit."

"200-300 organic meals per month will also have a positive environmental impact given that organic food takes on average 26% less energy per tonne of food to produce."
