Turning leftovers into tasty treats

A celebrity chef will be serving up top tips tomorrow (22 April) on turning leftovers into tasty meals at the launch of a food waste campaign backed by Manchester City Council.

Andrew Nutter, a regular on TV shows such as Ready Steady Cook, This Morning and the BBC's Great Food Live, will be showing guests how a little bit of imagination can transform household leftovers into mouth watering dishes.

The campaign, organised by the Greater Manchester authorities in partnership with WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, is aimed at encouraging residents to get the most from their food and stop good food going to waste. The average family with children could save up to £50 a month simply by using the food they already have.

Councillor Richard Cowell, Manchester City Council's executive member for the environment, said: "Reducing the amount of food you throw away doesn't just stop it ending up on landfill sites, creating gases which harm the environment, it is also a brilliant way of saving money."

He continued: "This event is a great way of promoting the importance of watching how much food we throw out, and with top chefs involved, we can show people that food made from leftovers can be delicious."

The event will be taking place at Oxford Road's Palace Hotel.
