Winners of the Cost Sector Catering Awards revealed

The Meals on Wheels Service was last night awarded top prize at the annual Cost Sector Catering Awards after its efforts to feed people during the big freeze.

Collecting the award on behalf of the Meals on Wheels service was Sue Ullmann, chair of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC).

She said: "This award is down to everybody who's involved, whether they are a provider or a supplier and whether they are a paid member or a volunteer – that's the important message to get across.

"During the really bad weather earlier this year, how well the service providers did in making sure the elderly didn't suffer and got their hot meals. Everybody went out and across the country meals were delivered.

"The dedication and commitment of the people involved is fantastic and I think it's great the whole service has been recognised. It isn't always appreciated, and most of the time their work just quietly goes on in the background.

"That's why this award is so welcome."

Over 800 guests attended the awards ceremony held at London's Hilton Metropole, which saw the catering industry's finest companies and representatives recognised for their hard work.

Cost Sector Catering chairman Alan Dewberry said all the nominees and winners should be proud of their achievements: "The Cost Sector Catering Awards are the pivotal point of the foodservice calendar. There's simply no other arena that offers foodservice caterers the chance to be judged by their peers and come through to win industry-wide recognition as the best."
