Young Chef of the Year final approaches

Thursday 3rd of June sees the 35th annual national final of The Chaîne International Young Chef of the Year Competition, to be held at the Gaggenau showroom in central London.

The cooking part of the competition will take place at Westminster Kingsway College.

Now in its 35th year, the competition is open to contestants under 27 years old who possess the knowledge, passion and potential to succeed in this skilled vocation. A rigorous series of test have been designed to test the originality, skill and culinary knowledge of the young chefs whilst giving them freedom to explore their creativity, flair and the ever important ability to think on their feet.

This year the young chefs will face the challenge of creating a three-course menu for four covers from an identical, previously undisclosed 'market basket' of ingredients. With these and just a handful of staple kitchen ingredients, they will have three and a half hours to whip up a culinary masterpiece.

In order to ensure total impartiality, a strict blind judging procedure is adopted whereby the competitors are only identified to the judges by their kitchen station number.

All competitors taking part in the 2010 final will be awarded the Chaîne (GB) Young Chef Competition Gold Medal.

The national winner will go on to represent Great Britain against chefs from across the globe in the international heat to be held in Helsinki, Finland in September 2010.
