The Avalon to showcase South African wines

The Avalon restaurant in London is hosting an event next month, which will see a selection of South African wines showcased.
Hosted in the Blue Room on the first floor, the evening will be presented by Werner Englebreght, chief wine maker at Waterkloof and Danny Spencer of Boutinot Wines. As guests dine tasting notes and anecdotes from the vineyard will be shared. The five-course menu, created by head chef Adam Hicks, offers British and South African produce, with wine to complement. The menu: Smoked mackerel, ricotta and lemon crostini 2006 Peacock Ridge Chardonnay *** Goat's cheese in pecan crust with baby spinach, figs and balsamic 2008 Waterkloof Estate Sauvignon Blanc *** Duck confit with pickled red cabbage and beetroot, parsley walnut pesto 2007 Circumstance Shiraz *** Chocolate and cherry tart 2006 Circumstance Merlot *** Selection of specialist cheeses 2008 Circumstance Cape Coral Rosé There are just 20 tickets available for the event on the 8th September 2009 and they are priced at £38.50 a ticket.
