Celebrity chef backs food waste campaign

Written by: Admin
Celebrity chef Lesley Waters is backing a campaign to help people in West Dorset save food and money.
Independent research revealed that one in three bags of shopping ends up in the bin. Lesley's food message "we bin a third of food we buy" was featured on the council's fleet of recycling and bin lorries yesterday (4 August) in Dorchester. The council also set up an information stand offering advice to help shoppers reduce waste. The renowned chef, who runs a cookery school as well as appearing in television cookery shows, commented on the shocking results of food waste: "It is sobering to think that the average family could save more than £600 a year simply by reducing their food waste. Don't forget that leftovers are ingredients and can often be simply transformed into new meals!" He continued: "The trick is to try and plan meals before you go shopping, as this way you can shop wisely and avoid impulse buying things which aren't needed and won't get eaten." Research from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) found that the average household wastes £420 a year on food which ends up in the bun.
