Five-storey ‘tea emporium’ opens in London
Promising to bring ‘tea savoir-faire’ to the capital, the brand new site features a restaurant, grab-and-go counter, two private event spaces, tea museum and retail space.
While the ground floor offers lunchtime takeaway options such as open sandwiches and pastries, a sit-down Salon de Thé is located on the first floor and opens daily for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
Sticking to the brand’s ‘Cuisine au Thé’ concept, the salon specialises in tea gastronomy using the ingredient as a spice or flavouring in every dish.
‘Light’ options include veal with Jasmin Bohème tea, and salmon Matcha with sautéed spinach, Siam rice and barberries; while tea-infused desserts include tea-candied strawberries with cream, bourbon vanilla shortbread and French meringue; and a 24-carat dessert of dark chocolate covered with Black Magic Tea and 24-carat gold leaves.
With over 150 years’ experience, Mariage Frères London is also home to a Musée du Thé, which showcases tea antiques from around the world. A ground floor retail space offers customers 1,000 tea varieties from 36 tea-producing countries, and much more.
