Five top establishments join Sustainable Restaurant Association

Written by: Admin
Five major restaurant groups are the latest eateries to team up with the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).
D&D London (whose collection of restaurants includes Blueprint Café, Skylon, Paternoster Chop House and Coq d'Argent), Las Iguanas, Le Pain Quotidien, Ping Pong and Prezzo are the most recent additions to the SRA portfolio. The SRA, a not-for-profit membership association, provides restaurants with advice and support to help them navigate the whole spectrum of sustainability issues. Since launching in March 2010 the SRA has welcomed 500 restaurant members and worked with many of them to increase energy efficiency and improve waste management, as well as helped them switch to local and sustainable suppliers and engage with their local communities. All groups, like every SRA member, will pledge to take three significant, sustainable actions over the course of the next year. The Environment Agency has labelled the hotel and restaurant sector as having the lowest levels of environmental awareness of all business sectors - responsible for a staggering three million tonnes of food waste annually. Mark Linehan, managing director of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, said: "We are really excited to be working with these five well recognized names. Their keenness to join the association and commitment to work with us to become more sustainable is indicative of the change that's starting to happen across the industry. "More restaurants are responding to customer demand for greater sustainability – which is good for diners, good for business and good for the planet."
