The charity has already seen major hotel groups such as Best Western, Pride of Britain, Relais & Chateaux and von Essen Hotels sign up to the spring/summer action. Chris Durrant, director of Beacon Purchasing, the event sponsor, said: "We want as many hoteliers as possible to get involved in the cyclathon – it's a great way to shape up for the summer, have fun and raise funds for an incredibly worthwhile cause. You never know what's around the corner and it could be any one of us turning to Hospitality Action for support in the future." The energetic event will see teams of four undertaking a sponsored cycle ride from hotel to hotel creating a chain that will eventually link all hotels across the country. The cyclathon is open to everyone, whether keen cyclists or those up for a challenge, and is very flexible with the route chosen by the participants. Each hotel will need to appoint a 'Charity Champion' to sign up a team of four cyclists and there is a £40 entry fee per team, which works out at just £10 per person. Each team is asked to raise a minimum of £400 with the charity on hand to support all fundraising efforts. The money raised will provide a much needed lifeline to those who are working, or have worked, in the hospitality industry who have fallen on tough times whether through illness, bereavement or poverty. There is also a selection of top prizes on offer to motivate those taking part. Prize categories include the highest combined mileage cycled per individual and per team, the highest sponsorship raised, the highest number of hotel links achieved and a trophy awarded to the overall winner.
