Italian cuisine is Britain's favourite
Some 61% of consumers would much rather indulge in Italian dishes such as pizzas and pastas than traditional British cuisine, according to a survey conducted by APETINA, a Mediterranean style cheese.
Out of the 5,000 people surveyed across Europe's five biggest culinary nations, just 5% of Brits are interested in learning how to master our own traditional dishes such as roasts and spotted dick.
The average Brit is likely to try cooking just 2.8 new recipes each month, compared to the Italians (6.5), the Spanish (7.2), the Germans (8.4) and the French (9.6).
And just 7% of Spanish, 5% of Italians and 4% of French cooks identified British cuisine as the one they'd most like to learn. However, 40% of Germans shoes British food as they type they'd most like to be able to recreate at home.
Nine out of ten Brits claim they would like to become more adventurous in their cooking, but three quarters blamed this on not having a good recipe to hand when they are shopping.
Therefore, APETINA is launching a text recipe service where the public can text and recipe a free recipe anytime, and anywhere.
To receive the recipe, consumers must text the word APETINA to the assigned short code, 60030. The user will then receive a reply text with a wish list of additional keywords which he/she can select.
Kate Richards, brand manager, APETINA, commented: "While we spend more time than other Europeans watching cookery shows, we are least likely to be trying out the recipes we see."
