Northern delights at NECTA 2011
NECTA (North Eastern Culinary Trade Association) will showcase a two day cookery and service competition at Newcastle Civic Centre from April 12-13 this year with the aim of highlighting all the best local and national talent.
NECTA is a partnership of the region's key players and leading culinary experts that promotes excellence in foodservice and the culinary arts for the future success of the industry. The NECTA Salon Culinaire is the only show in the north east of England dedicated to the hospitality industry. Eight college students will compete in a variety of classes allowing them to show different skills and techniques. There is also an open competition where students, junior and senior chefs, local and national, compete for the prestigious title of North East Chef of the Year, previously won by chefs such as Dave Kennedy from the Black Door. The Craft Guild of is proud to be judging at the NECTA salon, says CEO Martin Bates. "The event is a massive boost for the region and hopes to raise the profile and the quality of the catering and hospitality trade in the North of England to equal that of anywhere in the country." Organiser Douglas Jordan says the sugarcraft display will be the finest in the country, attracting entries from all over the world. In addition there will be a market outdoors where local food producers will display their products. • For further information, visit www.necta-chef.org
