Regional finalists for Young Chef Young Waiter contest revealed
The regional finalists for the Young Chef Young Waiter 2011 competition have been announced.
Regional chef finalists - North The competition will take place at Darlington College, on Wednesday, 7 September with the four most successful candidates going forward to compete in the national finals, to be held at Westminster Kingsway College on Wednesday, October 19. Regional waiter finalists – South The competition will take place at Rashleighs, Maidenhead, courtesy of Nestlé Professional, on Monday, 19 September, with the four most successful candidates going forward to compete in the national finals, to be held at Westminster Kingsway College on 19 October. Dean Bonwick, Waterside Inn, Bray Emilio Pietre Conti, Coworth Park, Ascot Romain Crozat, Galvin at Windows, London Marion Dray, Coworth Park, Ascot Paul Foxon, The Ritz, London Emily Holworthy, Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, London Eleftherios Kandylis, The Fat Duck, Bray Liam Kelly, Hinds Head, Bray Markus Klaas Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, London Samantha Poynter, Dinner by Heston, Mandarin Hyde Park, London Burak Sen, The Ritz, London Romain Taverne, Galvin at Windows, London Bruce Poole (Chez Bruce, London) will again chair the panel of top-line chef judges which includes such celebrities as Angela Hartnett (Murano Restaurant), Phil Howard (The Square) and Gary Jones (Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons). Stephen Mannock, from the National Skills Academy for Hospitality, chairs the panel of waiter judges, which includes Simon King (front of house operations manager, The Fat Duck), Simon Girling (The Ritz) and Jeremy Rata (Bovey Castle, Devon).
Bob Walton, chairman of the competition and president of the Restaurant Association, said that every year, the standard of entries got higher and higher. "We can be really proud of all these young people who show so much talent. They are the future of the industry."
