Takeaway owner banned from operating food

Ms Sameena Shahid, owner of the Almas Tandoori in Falkirk, Scotland, has been barred from running her business under recent food hygiene regulations this week.
The business woman had a Hygiene Prohibition Order imposed at Falkirk Sheriff Court earlier this week under the Food Hygiene (Scotland) Regulations 2006 following a number of inspections by Falkirk Council's Food Safety team over the last 16 months. The food safety team found that food storage practices were poor, there were inadequate standards of staff hygiene, there were inadequate arrangements for the cleaning of food and hand contact surfaces and equipment, and the ready to eat food was at risk of bacterial cross contamination. Cllr Charles MacDonald, Falkirk Council's Convenor of Community Health and Safety, commented on the actions made: "There has been a systematic failure in this care to pay attention to basic and fundamental food hygiene and despite repeated warnings, we were forced to take legal action in order to prevent potentially more serious consequences." Derek Oliver, Food & Safety Co-ordinator, explained that Ms Shahid had opportunities to improve the standards of her eatery: "We worked tirelessly with Ms Shahid to help improve the safety of her business but every re-inspection would further indicate her complete disregard for public safety and her desire to place profit before public health. "We welcome the decision by the Sheriff as the drain on resources and the constant threat to the public from this business was enormous." Ms Shahid has become the second person in Scotland to be barred from running her business due to food hygiene regulations. Weblink: www.falkirk.gov.uk
