Autumn 2011: Craft Guild Awards review
In this review of the Craft Guild’s awards ceremony held in June, the highlights of the night come under the spotlight.
A fabulous night was had by everyone attending the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards gala dinner at London’s Westminster Park Plaza Hotel, where 650 leading members of the industry paid tribute to a group of amazingly talented chefs.
The hotel’s executive chef Imthiaz “Imi” Kader and his team provided the superb feast highly praised by Guild vice chairman Christopher Basten in his sante du chef, while entertainment came from Westcoast, who celebrated the sounds of the legendary US group, the Beach Boys, which one guest said was “an inspired choice”.
For the first time the awards were presented by a mix of renowned chefs including Cyrus Todiwala, James and Chris Tanner, and Philip Howard of The Square, the latter unknowingly at the time was due to collect the Special Award for his passion and dedication to his craft.
Craft Guild chairman Andrew Green said winning one of the Guild’s awards is one of the best accolades for chefs to have to boost their careers, and plans were already in hand for future awards events.
A raffle held to raise money for the Craft Guild to continue its fantastic work raised £5,700. Holders of the winning tickets will experience a superb dinner in the Krug Room at The Dorchester.
